Wormsloe Historic Site

 Wormsloe Historic Site The Wormsloe Historic Site was once the colonial estate of carpenter Noble Jones, who came to Georgia with James Oglethorpe in 1733. This former plantation is the site of the oldest standing structure in Savannah. The ruins of Jones’ tabby house was built in 1745. Noble Jones took several roles in the colony and fought against the Spanish. The land stayed with Jones until he died and continued with his descendants until the state acquired it in 1973.

Angel Oak | Johns Island, South Carolina Angel Oak is a Southern live oak located on Johns Island near Charleston, South Carolina. The tree is estimated to be 400–500 years old. It stands 66.5 ft tall, measures 28 ft in circumference, and produces shade that covers 17,200 square feet!  

USS Clamagore (SS-343)

  USS Clamagore (SS-343) USS Clamagore (SS-343) is a Balao-class submarine, presently a museum ship at the Patriot's Point Naval & Maritime Museum outside Charleston, South Carolina. Built-in 1945 for the United States Navy, she was still in training when World War II ended. She was named for the clamagore. A National Historic Landmark, she is the only known surviving example of a GUPPY III type submarine. The Clamagore is currently closed due to a leaking main ballast tank and plans are underway to recycle her later this year.

 Abandoned Halfway Creek Church Halfway Creek Church is nestled deep within the Francis Marion National Forest north of Charleston, SC. The church was built in 1941 and named after a creek that runs near it. Over the years, membership declined, and then in 2005, the church was transferred to Bethany Pentecostal Holiness which still owns the empty church and surrounding property.

 Patriots Point - USS Yorktown and USS Laffey Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is located in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, at the mouth of the Cooper River on the Charleston Harbor, across from Charleston. Home of the USS Yorktown (CV-10) and USS Laffey (DD-724).  *Patriots Point is also home of the USS Clamagore (SS-343) soon to be recycled featured in a different post. USS Yorktown is one of 24 Essex-class aircraft carriers built during World War II for the United States Navy. Initially, to have been named Bonhomme Richard, she was renamed Yorktown while still under construction, after the Yorktown-class aircraft carrier USS Yorktown, which was sunk at the Battle of Midway. She is the fourth U.S. Navy ship to bear the name, though the previous ships were named for the 1781 Battle of Yorktown. Yorktown was commissioned in April 1943, and participated in several campaigns in the Pacific Theater of Operations, earning 11 battle stars and the Presidential Unit Citati...
