Longwood Gardens is an American botanical garden. It consists of over 1,077 acres of gardens, woodlands, and meadows in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, the United States in the Brandywine Creek Valley. It is one of the premier horticultural display gardens in the United States and is open to visitors year-round to enjoy native and exotic plants and horticulture, events and performances, seasonal and themed attractions, as well as educational lectures, courses, and workshops.

 Abandoned McFarland Tennessee The post office was established in 1895. With the coming of the Old Line, McFarland served as a section headquarters due, in part, to its proximity to the "W," a series of switchbacks that required additional maintenance. The town grew in support of the railroad workers, adding a general store, post office, and two-story hotel. Locals referred to the hotel as the "Government House," as it was often filled with forest service personnel working the newly created Cherokee National Forest. In time, McFarland was abandoned. Locals call it the UFO landing pad but this structure actually was part of a cement mixing plant used to pore cement into trucks used to build the Appalican Dam and Powerhouse. Little Soddy Historic Mining Area Photo descriptions by Cumberland Trails Conference  For more information about visiting this area Synopsis of Mining History on the Little Soddy Creek Valley  THE FIRST MINE The first mine in the Soddy area was established in 1866 by the Soddy Coal Company. This mine is thought to have been the first tunnel mine in the state of Tennessee. The company was reorganized a number of times until around 1909 when it was bought out by the Durham Coal and Iron Company of the Carolinas, who operated until 1929, when it it was forced to close because of the Great Depression. First, the coal was sent down to the base of the mountain via an incline cable rail system and then pulled by mule, all the way to the Tennessee River. In, the late 1870’s a series of locks and dams were built to allow barges brought up Soddy Creek to the tipple at Long Mine Entrance Spring, halfway to the river.
